I just received an email from Petra Vonk. They have launched their new website and I was so impressed I had to let everyone know about it!  If you are looking for something fresh, an environment that inspires your staff and gets your office on a permanent creative buzz, look no further.  Petra Vonk , based in Cape Town, specialises in creating the most inspiring and creative working environments I have seen in a while. They do interior design, graphic design, creative  and strategic development ( from concept to campaign launch) and project management.

Check them out by visiting their website: www.petravonkdesign.co.za. I particularly loved this boardroom.

Do you know of other creative interior agencies in South Africa? Tell our readers about them

Today I received the below email from one of our candidates, Lucinda ( Laeeqah), listed with us for a few years now and also running infant training workshops for domestics, we are certainly honoured to have her working with our clientèle.

If you stay in Cape Town and have unused or old toys lying around one of these 3 ladies will come and collect them at your home if you like, to donate to The Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children in Cape Town. They are also now asking for toiletries as well, just basic essentials we do not even think about, but which, these children do not even have regular access. Please donate to this cause. Contact details are at the bottom of this article. Your donation will not go unappreciated or unused and there will be a child whose world lights up due to your kindness.

Gift of Giving

Hi there.

It is that time of the year again. Janine, Sara and myself have decided, for the 3rd consecutive year, to collect toys and books for the destitute children. The previous 2 years has been such a success because of your contributions.

In the past I have wrapped and delivered Bags of new and 2nd hand toys and books. I label each xmas present, stating which age group and gender the toy is appropriate for .

The Children centre is extremely grateful for all the gifts they receive. They fully rely on donations from the public to keep up the wonderful work that they are doing. Our aim is to bring a little joy to the destitute children at xmas time.

Toys include:

Dolls                                                           Trucks, cars

Story books                                                 Educational books

Any toys your children have outgrown.          Puzzles

I also collect the unused toys and clothes and deliver them to the orphange throughout the year. A Big Thank You to those who donate their unused goods to the poor regularly.

This year we have decided to add toiletries to our mission as the orphanges is in dire need of these. If each one will contribute just one or two things it will be very much appreciated. Every time you go shopping just add a bar of soap or toothpaste to your shopping and by the end of november, with all your contributions, we will be able to give them a box of toiletries which could last them a few months.

Toiletries include:

Toothpaste (kids or adult)                            Toothbrush (kids or Adult)

Underarm                                                     Deodrant

Aqueous Cream                                            Soap

Face cloths                                                  Nappies (Towelling or Disposables)

This year we will be delivering the xmas presents and toiletries to Saartjie Bartman Centre for Women and Children. They have also mentioned that during the holiday season, it is a very bad time of year for them, as many kids get admitted into their care, who have been abused. Therefore it is important to bring a little cheer in their hearts with a little xmas gift.

Last year Sitters4U assisted Vanessa to find an au pair for her grandchild in Johannesburg. They were so extremely happy with our service, we have done it again for her this year with another grandchild in Cape Town. Thank you for the lovely comment Vanessa!

Thanks Bianca yet again for finding us what I am sure will end up being a great au pair!

Very best regards,

Today I had the pleasure of watching Canal Walks Fred Abrahamse & Marcel Meyer’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with my daughter. I have to say, what an incredible performance! The sound and lighting were spectacular while the make up, stage and  costumes left nothing to be desired, not to mention the fantastic performances of the actors and actresses involved .

It was an amazing performance! My daughter loved it and surprisingly so did I.  I will admit, there have been a few performances in shopping centers we have attended where I was far from captivated, if not completely bored but Canal Walk certainly knows how to put a show together! They really weren’t kidding when they said”visual spectacular” and  said “Its a tale sure to mesmerize even the most hyperactive of  little bodies.”

Take the whole family along for an hour in  the world of  Snow White, Sneezy, Dopey, Sleepy, Doc, Happy, Bashful and Grumpy in their little cottage in the forest at Canal Walk. Its playing everyday from the the 27th of June to the 19th of July 2009  ( excluding mondays). So fight off those” mom I’m bored” blues compliments of Sitters4U.

This weekend I was reminded of why we are so lucky to be staying in South Africa! Not only do we have so many National treasures in the terrain, wild life and people, but our cities are also definitely something to be proud of! South Africa really is the most beautiful countries in the world! I was lucky enough to be reminded of this, over the weekend and thought its a trip to share with all of you…

This last Saturday my family and I decided it was definitely time for a visit to the top, the top of table mountain that is, Cape Town is gorgeous! It was just such a beautiful day and I couldn’t resist. It was my daughters first trip up.

from the top of Table Mountain

We arrived at the cable car and thanks to the J&B MET and with so many people taking the opportunity to visit the beach instead, we found parking near the cable car station quite easily, which generally never happens..

We made our way to the cable car station ( the pricing by the way is made for tourists, they should seriously think about providing a discount to South African citizens) and my daughter was amazed with not only the speed at which we elevated and the view but above all else, the rotating floor.

On reaching the top of the mountain we took a trip to the self serve restaurant, they offer a variety of options, from warm cooked food to a full salad bar and everything from coffee to a full selection of wine and beer. It was definitely a unique experience.

A view of Camps Bay from the top of the mountain!

After enjoying a relaxing meal our adventure began, my daughter couldn’t stop asking questions and we took more than one go at the binoculars provided by the National Park ( at R 5 a shot, if you are planning a trip up there be sure to take a few R 5 coins with you, its a big help). We walked around admiring the view, reading the interesting informational boards ( that covered every subject from Dassies to Robben island history and the weather 6 million years ago) for a further 2 hours. We also had a few very interesting chats about Fynbos which my daughter found hard to understand, “How can Fynbos only grow in the Western Cape and no where else in the world?”, was the question of the day, a very difficult question to answer to a 7 year old (particularly considering she doesn’t understand weather patterns and climate at this stage). We spent the rest of the afternoon checking out the flowers and searching for fairies and Dassies (Did you know they are related to the elephant?)( I think they were hiding from the heat) and then we ran into a lizard or two. They were actually quite funny to watch, part of the pleasure of having children is that you can remember and even partake in activities such as simply watching little creatures with fascination for up to 10 minutes at a time.

Going down was almost as much fun as going up! What an awesome day! It really allowed me to appreciate the uniqueness of the Mother City and gave me some much needed “out time” with the people I love most in the world!
